Lisa Cubley - Vote 4 Bulverde

Lisa Cubley
Candidate for Bulverde City Council Place Two
I am running for City Council Place 2 as I believe it is time for a new perspective -- one that is not confined to traditional ways of thinking but instead focused on where we can go and the best path to get there. New energy is needed to understand our community's needs and to connect the community with the government.
I believe that the role of a Council member is to listen to the community, address their issues, and consider their opinions and concerns when making decisions. It is essential for the community to feel heard, even if they don’t always get exactly what they want. As a Council member, my door will always be open for anyone who wishes to share their thoughts.
Here’s a little bit about myself: I moved to this wonderful area from Houston with my husband of 34 years, Scott. We have two children who both live in Houston. We reside in Windmill Ranch where I serve as the Treasurer of the HOA and manage various projects. My focus in the HOA has been to ensure that we utilize our limited funds for maximum benefit, manage risks, and maintain the value of our common properties.
My education and background are in finance. I worked in the Houston natural gas industry for fifteen years gaining experience in almost every aspect of the business. After retiring to raise my children, I also took care of the elders in my extended family and led within various nonprofits, such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTAs, booster clubs, and baseball leagues. I was also the head coach for my son’s baseball team for 5 years, and the head coach for my niece and nephew’s baseball team.
If I am elected to City Council, I will begin my term focusing on the following items:
-
Preserving the Heart of Our Community. We must safeguard the unique character and traditions that define our community. The charm of our small-town atmosphere and the beauty of our open spaces make this a wonderful place to call home.
-
Addressing Community Challenges. We must tackle pressing issues such as drainage, flood mitigation and permitting. We need to review fee structures to ensure that they accurately reflect costs.
-
Enhancing Our Recreational Facilities. We need proactive funding strategies to expand and improve our parks and recreational facilities. By introducing amenities like pickleball courts and dedicated bike lanes in the downtown area, we can better serve our community's diverse needs and promote an active lifestyle.
-
Empowering Every Resident's Voice. This approach will ensure that every citizen has a meaningful voice in our decision-making processes and that all areas of our community are represented and heard.
In conclusion, I ask for your vote for City Council Place 2. I believe I possess the necessary skills to move the city forward while also understanding the constraints imposed by city structure and state laws in Texas.
Most importantly, I recognize that we all come from different backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives to this beautiful community. But despite our differences, we share common ground, and by focusing on it, we can ensure Bulverde remains the best small city in the big Hill Country.
